KBL HISTORY
Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), known as the "New Society Movement" in English, is a venerable political organization in the Philippines, intricately interwoven with the nation's political tapestry across numerous decades. Its origins can be traced to the tenure of President Ferdinand Marcos, and it has played a significant role in shaping the country's political landscape.
The Marcos Era (1965-1986) was a significant period in Philippine history, marked by the establishment of Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) during the 1970s. Ferdinand Marcos assumed the presidency in 1965 and, in 1972, invoked martial law, presiding over the country until 1981. During this time, KBL held a central role as the ruling political party, actively contributing to Marcos's efforts to catalyze a transformation in Philippine society. This transformative vision aimed to create a "New Society" through a series of comprehensive economic and political reforms, with KBL serving as a pivotal instrument in advancing these policies.
Martial Law and Political Dominance: Under the umbrella of martial law, the KBL achieved a profound impact on the political landscape, delivering a series of noteworthy benefits to the nation. This period effectively consolidated power in the hands of Ferdinand Marcos and his allies. The party assumed control over the government, legislature, and other pivotal institutions, which proved instrumental in curbing the growth of communist movements, imposing much-needed discipline, dismantling private armies, and nurturing a sense of reverence and loyalty towards the government among the people.
The Snap Elections and People Power Revolution: In 1986, a pivotal moment in Philippine history unfolded as a response to widespread allegations of electoral irregularities in the snap presidential elections. Corazon Aquino emerged as a prominent figure in the opposition as back up by Cardinal Jaime Sin, few big businessman, some faction of the military, police force and the leftist group. They had catalyzed the situation that leads to Edsa Revolution as joined by few thousand people.
Post-Marcos Era: Following the ousting of Ferdinand Marcos, the KBL encountered significant challenges, primarily in terms of its leadership and financial resources. As the party aimed to regain political relevance in the evolving political landscape, it faced considerable hurdles. The shadow of past incidents loomed large, affecting the party's standing. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that many KBL members and officers chose to remain stoic and optimistic, demonstrating their commitment to the party's ideals and their belief in its potential to adapt and thrive in the changed political climate.
In the post-Marcos era, the KBL has demonstrated resilience by maintaining its status as an active political party. While facing the challenges of regaining its once-dominant position, it has persevered within the context of a diverse and dynamic political landscape in the Philippines.
Bright Future of the KBL Political Party
We envision a vibrant and impactful future for the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) political party. With a steadfast commitment to our founding principles, we aspire to rekindle our political relevance and rejuvenate our role in shaping the Philippines' democratic landscape.
In this journey toward a brighter future, we pledge to harness the strength of diversity, embrace inclusivity, and engage with the evolving needs and aspirations of our fellow Filipinos. We will seek to foster unity and dialogue, champion transparency, and adhere to the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
Through innovative policies and a renewed dedication to public service, we aim to earn the trust and support of the people, ultimately regaining our position as a vital and constructive force in Philippine politics. Together, we look forward to a future where the KBL stands as a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to contribute to the prosperity and progress of our great nation."
